Production Designer Mark Carchidi and I had so much fun on this project because with a music video the art department can be very sentimental. I loved working with the band to create a world full of references to their past. The basement at the end of the video is shot on the same location as all of the band performance. That was courtesy of our team putting flats up and dressing the whole basement overnight. Ciara Racanelli, David Ambrose, Ria Manghani and I put up said flats and painted two layers in less than 12 hours. This is not at all how you are supposed to do things, as a coat of paint needs time to dry, but desperate times call for desperate measures. And it all turned out beautifully.
Id like to take a moment of silence for my red vans who I was persuaded to absolutely destroy for this project. You can see them both on the ghost's feet and in the box and the end of the video. It was well worth it and a sacrifice that had to be made in the name of art. Mr. Carchidi and I constructed around 150 boxes and meticulously placed them around the house that we were shooting in so that the actress and camera crew could still make it through.
Mr. Carchidi and I also built the ghost costume out of muslin and a stretchy breathable black fabrick for the eyes. I commend Elizabeth Marshall who played the ghost because it was the middle of summer and that breathable fabric wasn't exactly as advertised. In order to keep the ghost costume from slipping off mid-take, we glued a rimless baseball cap into the sheet.
This project was filled with so much love and dedication from everyone involved. Special thanks to Alex Orfan for directing this beautiful piece and letting me be involved.
