This film is my everything. I wrote and directed The Hazing and when it came to production design I already had it figured out from the start. When I wrote The Hazing I saw each scene in my head and I really just put my vision directly onto the screen. In all honesty it's a relatively simple layout. I took inspiration from a scene in Pitch Perfect when the new acapella members are sworn in. I had a clip from that movie that I actually showed my Director of Photography (Elizabeth Marshall) and my Gaffer (Alex Orfan) to help keep them on the same page.
It really worked for the best that I was my own Production Designer because of how much I had to work with Mr. Orfan to cohesively portray candle light throughout the film. My lovely Art Director Madeline Daly and incredible Set Designer Daniel Harris kept the boat afloat while I did my directorial duties on set. The final scene in the movie was really fun to figure out, and I commend them both for keeping organized my every whim. The giant glittery greek letters on the wall were something I was adamant on having, so during production meetings I would be working on those. Ms. Daly was able to get the most perfect cupcakes to have for the Zeta Theta Pi celebration.
