On Lovesick I was my own art department (with the exception of makeup). There were three main locations I had to focus on: The graveyard, the bedroom, and the prom.
The graveyard location was the directors backyard , which I filled with graves I made from insulation foam board. I cut the basic rectangle shape using a table saw, then rounded the top edges with a hand saw. I sanded it all down, and then whacked them with wire brushes. I carved out the writings in the headstones using a knife, then painted the whole thing grey. When it was dry I went over that paint with some textured spray paint to look more like stone, and then with sharpie I accentuated the letter carvings.
The bedroom, I rearranged and added a collection of posters from other rooms in the house, as well as some I had purchased online. The prom was the most expensive part, and the base for it all was a rental hall at a fire department. Once the director and I came up with the color scheme, I purchased bunches of balloons, table decor, and set up a DJ booth and photo booth to help fill out the space. My favorite detail was a slide of “class photos” I put on the TV in the background which featured high school photos I’d asked the crew to send in. There was also a scene in what was to be a high school hallway where I designed posters advertising the prom to be hung in the hallways.
